OUR BACKGROUND IN THE BREED
In 1994, we purchased our first Great Pyrenees, Kodiak, after finding him through an ad in the classified section of the Sunday Seattle Times. We were a young, active family who had just moved into our first home and had our first child. We wanted a devoted companion and trustworthy watchdog that would be good with children. We felt the qualities of the Great Pyrenees were exactly what we were looking for.
Throughout his life, Kodi was a beloved and devoted member of our family providing excellent security for our property and children. We didn’t know it at the time, but he was not a well-bred dog and ended up having many costly health issues. After Kodi passed we tried our hand at rescuing a few different Pyrs. Unfortunately, none worked out due to behavior and temperament issues. We still felt committed to the breed and knew the right dog for us was out there. In addition to this, we’d been interested in joining the dog show world for some time. Thus began our search for reputable breeders in the Pacific Northwest. This led us to our first show dog, Dublin, in 2008 (Championed 2013). Our years of showing Dublin provided many opportunities to meet great friends and mentors involved with the breed and we have been expanding Teanaway Great Pyrenees for the last five years.
We are now selectively breeding our dogs to produce healthy, sound dogs that conform to the Great Pyrenees standard. All dogs used for breeding are at least 24 months of age and have been certified clear of Hip Dysplasia and Patellar Luxation. All our Great Pyrenees are examined regularly by a veterinarian, and are in compliance with recommended health testing and vaccination protocols. We are members of the Great Pyrenees Club of America, the Great Pyrenees Club of Puget Sound and the Columbia Cascade Pyrenees Club.
"Only the true breed possesses this bewitching, almost indefinable expression in the eyes, both distant and caressing, contemplating and just a little sad. As you look in these eyes, the immense moral value of the breed pierces our soul"
- Bernard Senac-Lagrange
